Member benefits across every product tier
Here are eight benefits you can access as an nib member
Hospital covers are categorised into four tiers: Gold, Silver, Bronze and Basic, making it easier for you to compare and choose the Hospital cover that’s right for you.
At nib, we believe health insurance should be easy to understand, easy to claim on and, most of all, good value. To ensure we’re always here for you, especially when you need it most, nib aims to provide a range of benefits, services and inclusions that make being an nib member worthwhile.
So whether you select a Gold, Silver, Bronze or Basic level of hospital cover, the good news is by simply being an nib member, there are a heap of helpful tools and benefits you can access.
1. Unlock deals and discounts
Get access to a world of exciting benefits and exclusive offers through nib Rewards. This members-only program can save you money with deals and discounts from some of Australia’s biggest brands.

2. Chat with Australia’s best contact centre
At nib, we have a team of hardworking and dedicated consultants who believe in genuine customer service, so when you call us, you can speak to a real person.
Plus, with a range of customer service channels, you can contact us when, where and how it suits, be that in person, over the phone or online.
3. Receive unlimited emergency ambulance cover
Whether Basic, Bronze, Silver or Gold, if you require an emergency ambulance, we’ve got you covered2. Plus, we don’t have any caps on the number of times you use that cover.
The average ambulance claim for nib members in the 2019/20 financial year was $9803, so, if you don’t have private health insurance, you might have to pay a hefty fee. Find out how much you can expect to pay for an ambulance in every state and territory across Australia.
4. Keep calm if accidents happen
It’s not just the ambulance fees you have to keep in mind. While public hospital healthcare (including emergency treatment) is free to all Australian citizens and most permanent residents, if you need further treatment after your initial admission, that’s when the costs (and waiting times) could add up.
On the majority of our hospital covers, nib offers extra protection against the unexpected with the Accidental Injury Benefit. If you’re an nib member and you seek treatment within 72 hours of an accident with a medical practitioner or at a hospital emergency department, and you are subsequently admitted to hospital, you’ll receive benefits in-line with our top hospital cover for the following 90 days.4
5. Check in or claim on your cover anytime, anywhere

It’s our community of specially-selected health providers who have agreed to provide nib members with quality healthcare and great customer service at an affordable price.
You can choose to see the dentist, optical or physiotherapy provider of your choice, but by choosing an nib First Choice provider, it simply means you could pay less. Search the nib First Choice network now to find a provider.
7. You could cover your costs through Medigap
If you need to go to hospital, you can get in touch with us to find a specialist who participates in nib’s MediGap which is designed to eliminate your out-of-pocket expenses if you need specialist medical treatment. Nine times out of 10, nib members will not pay an out-of-pocket expense for eligible MediGap items when they are treated by a medical specialist.
It’s important to check with your specialist well in advance if they will bill you as a Medigap patient.
8. Go to hospital with confidence
As an nib member, you have access to our Going to Hospital tool, which is filled with helpful information on health insurance, how to minimise your out-of-pocket expenses and the best questions to ask your specialist.
Through Going to Hospital, you can find a specialist who participates in nib MediGap, find an nib Agreement hospital (we have agreements with most Aussie private hospitals to help save you money) and get an understanding of the average costs for a procedure like yours.
The tool also allows you to check whether your particular procedure is covered by your current policy and whether you have any waiting periods you need to serve.
Regardless of what product tier you’re on, there’s never been a better time to review your cover than now. As your life changes, so will your health needs – and we want to make sure you’re covered for the things you need most.
